SIDON, Lebanon: Students at a local school in the southern city of Sidon Saturday mourned in their own way the death of South Africa’s Nelson Mandela.
During a one-hour class titled “Nelson Mandela, an unforgettable lesson,” Grade 9 students at Bahaa Eddine Hariri School discussed the late president’s long struggle defending human rights and freedom.
During the lesson, students also lifted photos of the late president as well as flags of Lebanon and South Africa. The pupils also lit candles and prayed that Mandela’s soul may rest in peace.
Mandela, South Africa's first black president and anti-apartheid icon, died Thursday night after battling with a chronic lung infection for months.
