BEIRUT: Future Movement MP Ahmad Fatfat slammed Friday Speaker Nabih Berri for remarks on the stalled Cabinet formation, saying the Parliament head was worse than Hezbollah’s Secretary-General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah.
"The concept of participation to March 8 is very strange,” Fatfat said. “They believe participation is only in numbers and not in responsibility and political decision."
“Berri’s [remarks] about the government formation are worse than those of Hassan Nasrallah when he threatened to adopt the 9-9-6 formula,” Fatfat said.
He also said Berri’s words could not serve to pave the way for a speedy Cabinet lineup.
Berri on Wednesday said that he still considers the 9-9-6 government formula to be a reasonable lineup, one that could break the ongoing Cabinet stalemate.
The March 8-proposed 9-9-6 formula calls for allotting nine ministerial portfolios to each of the March 8 and March 14 camps with the remaining going to the centrists – President Michel Sleiman, Prime Minister-designate Tammam Salam and Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt.
The proposal is opposed by the March 14 alliance.
Fatfat reiterated the need for forming a neutral, nonpartisan government.
