BEIRUT: Beirut Municipality kicked off over the weekend the holiday season with the lighting of the Christmas tree in the capital’s Downtown area.

The tree was lit Saturday afternoon at Martyrs’ Square facing the Mohammad al-Amine Mosque.

Beirut Governor Nassif Qaloush hailed the efforts of the municipality in lighting up the tree despite the bad weather conditions in the country.

He also expressed his best wishes for both the Christmas and New Year holidays.
