BEIRUT: Lebanese Communist Party Secretary-General Khaled Hadadeh said Sunday that Lebanon was coping with the worst political crisis in its history, describing the country as a failed state.
Hadadeh’s remarks were made during an event at the Iqlim al-Kharroub town of Shhim to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the death of Mahmoud Maoush, a slain LCP fighter.
“Our country is passing through the most dangerous crisis in its history. ... Among the ranks of those who are running the country we find only corruption and the trading of accusations,” he said. “We are convinced that the Lebanese political system can no longer run the country.
We live in a failing state and the solution lies in building a civil, democratic and secular state.”
Referring to the situation in Syria, Hadadeh said: “The only solution can be reached through internal political dialogue among the national Syrian forces.”
