BEIRUT: Kataeb Party leader Amin Gemayel said he is still undecided over running for the upcoming presidential election, in remarks published Wednesday.

“I have not taken the decision to run for the election yet and I have not made any move in that direction,” Gemayel said in remarks published by An-Nahar daily.

“However, if the right circumstances are in place, everything is possible,” he added.

Lebanon’s Presidential election is due in May 2014.

President Michel Sleiman has repeatedly said he is against any possible extension of his own term.

Gemayel also said that Lebanon was in need of a strong president to help the country overcome the current political crises.

“Lebanon is sliding into the abyss; the national unity and partnership on the economic, social and all levels are being taken lightly,” he said.

“This period requires a capable leadership to breathe new life into Lebanon and restore its role and the foundations of its existence,” Gemayel added.
