BEIRUT: Caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel honored an employee Friday who returned the $10,000 he had found in Beirut airport's reception hall.
Charbel received the employee, who declined to give his name, at the ministry and honored him, saying his actions prove all is not lost in Lebanon.
“What this good citizen did is the only proof that the country is still alright despite the political, security and socioeconomic pressures burdening citizens,” Charbel said at a news conference.
“This man resisted what was against the principles he was raised with, although we know the difficult living conditions of some Lebanese, particularly the middle class,” he added
The employee found $10,000 in a package and handed it over to the Internal Security Forces at the airport. The money was also returned to its original owner who Charbel said was a Lebanese expatriate coming home for the holidays.
