BEIRUT: MP Simon Abi Ramia, a member in MP Michel Aoun’s Change and Reform bloc, called Tuesday for Christian consensus on naming the next president.
“All Christians should go to the presidential election united and in agreement on the name of the next president,” he told MTV television station.
“It is high time we had a comprehensive Christian agreement on a strong candidate, one who wields significant popular support,” he added.
The next presidential election is due on May 2014. Although he did not confirm he would run for president, Aoun is a possible candidate.
Abi Ramia said the Lebanese should ask themselves “who is the next president who is able to secure real partnership among the Lebanese and is able to restore the effective role of the Christian [community].”
