TRIPOLI, Lebanon: A man from Jabal Mohsen was shot and wounded in broad daylight in the northern city of Tripoli Thursday.
Alawite Khodr Abbas was shot on Syria St. in the neighborhood of Bab al-Tabbaneh and was transferred to a nearby hospital.
The Lebanese Army cordoned off the area where Abbas was shot and was reportedly in pursuit of the assailants.
The Alawite community of Lebanon, which is centered in the northern city, has in recent weeks been the target of several sectarian attacks.
Thursday's shooting came days after a Human Rights Watch said Alawites are “particularly vulnerable” to sectarian attacks in Tripoli and the Lebanese government must do more protect them.
