BEIRUT: The Lebanese Army said Tuesday it boosted its field measures countrywide to preserve security on the occasion of New Year.

In a statement, the military said all units were “on high alert and undertook strict security measures in order to protect citizens as well as fight crimes such as robbery and all kinds of violations.”

The Army also reissued a notice reminding citizens that the Defense Ministry has restricted the use of arms licenses in the country until further notice starting Dec. 23, except those belonging to bodyguards of ministers, deputies, and religious dignitaries.

It also asked citizens once again to refrain from firing celebratory gunfire for the occasion and to report any such incident to the military.
