BEIRUT: A new Cabinet is urgently needed in Lebanon, Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea said Tuesday.
“There is an urgent need to form a government in Lebanon because the country cannot go on without a [Cabinet] and the local authorities cannot work effectively without the presence of an effective Cabinet,” Geagea said as he met with a delegation of mukhtars from the Metn region.
The LF leader urged President Michel Sleiman and the prime minister-designate to form a government as soon as possible “because waiting can be futile and will not yield any results.”
The government formation has been stalled for more than six months due to differences between political rivals.
Despite major hurdles facing him, Prime Minister-designate Tammam Salam has vowed not to give up on efforts to form the new government and has ruled out the possibility of a fait accompli government as a last resort to break the Cabinet stalemate.
