SIDON, Lebanon: Two Israeli violations of Lebanese territory were recorded Wednesday, a statement from the Army said.
An Israeli gunboat crossed 10 meters into Lebanese waters off the southern town of Naqoura at 10:50 a.m., the Army said.
The statement said the incident was “a new violation of Lebanon's sovereignty and [U.N. Resolution] 1701.”
Meanwhile, an Israeli infantry force crossed into Lebanon Wednesday in pursuit of Lebanese shepherd, the statement said.
Security sources told The Daily Star that the incursion violated international agreements to respect the country’s sovereignty.
The sources said that the force crossed the border near the Jabal al-Sheikh observatory and traveled 300 meters into Lebanon as they pursued the shepherd.
The shepherd was identified as Abdullah Mohammad Zahra from Shebaa town.
The Israeli soldiers were not able to catch him, the sources said.
The sources said that the Lebanese authorities intend to file a complaint with the United Nations over the border violation.
