BEIRUT: A man with a criminal record was killed during an exchange of gunfire with a police patrol in Ashrafieh Sunday, according to a statement issued by the Directorate General of the Internal Security Forces.
Members of an ISF Information Branch patrol were suspicious of two men riding a motorbike and tried to stop them.
One of the men opened fire on the patrol, prompting the ISF member to fire back, critically wounding the gunman, the statement said.
It added that the gunman’s colleague threw him off the motorbike and fled. The man, who was identified by his initials as M.Y., died later of fatal wounds.
