BEIRUT: Gabriel Gharib, a 56-year-old Lebanese doctor, was selected Sunday as the most skilled heart surgeon among 200,000 doctors in France.
The selection followed a scientific probe conducted by Capital magazine in its October edition.
The probe lasted a year during which some 150 specialists, among them 100 doctors, were questioned on the skills of the medical sector in France. In the first phase, 900 out of 200,000 doctors were selected.
Some 150 doctors were shortlisted in the second phase with Gharib emerging as the most prominent one.
Gharib settled in Bordeaux in 1975 where he studied medicine and got his degrees in 1982. He worked in general surgery in several government hospitals in Paris and other French cities before specializing in heart surgery.
