Lebanon adjusts Eid Al-Adha holiday

BEIRUT: Lebanon adjusted Eid al-Adha holiday for public sector employees to three days next week after the Higher Shiite Council announced Oct. 16 as the first day of the holiday.

A circular issued by caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati stated that public departments and institutions as well as municipalities will remain closed from Oct. 15-17. Work will resume Friday.

The Muslim holiday of al-Adha also known as the Greater Eid is an annual holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide in which the faithful commemorate Prophet Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmael as an act of obedience to God.
