BEIRUT: Caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel says phase 2 of a plan to maintain security in the northern city of Tripoli will soon be implemented.
“The security plan for Tripoli is [being implemented] in two phases and it is now ready and will be implemented soon under my personal supervision,” Charbel said in remarks published Thursday by Al-Mustaqbal newspaper.
The caretaker interior minister, however, admitted that security officials faced difficulties preparing the second phase of the plan.
“But we will remove theses obstacles,” Charbel stressed.
Phase 1 of the security plan for Tripoli was implemented earlier this month.
Charbel said at the time that the plan chiefly aims to protect Tripoli from possible car bombs following a spate of devastating bombings targeting Lebanon’s second largest city as well as the southern suburbs of the capital, Beirut.
