SIDON, Lebanon: The cousin of a former Fatah Movement commander was shot and wounded in the Ain el-Hilweh refugee camp in the coastal city of Sidon Thursday, a security source told The Daily Star.
Ahmad Abdel-Majid Issa, cousin to recently demoted Mahmoud Issa, also known as Lino, was shot by an unidentified assailant as he was entering the neighborhood of Safsaf, inside the camp.
The source said the shooter ran away after the shooting.
Issa remains in stable condition, the source added.
Palestinian security forces soon launched an investigation into the shooting.
The Fatah Movement recently demoted and expelled Lino over the latter's criticism of the group.
Lino was consequently stripped of his security entourage and the political cover he enjoyed, making him more vulnerable to assassination attempts.
