SIDON, Lebanon: Security sources said Sunday the Anti-Drug Department’s regional office in south Lebanon arrested the head of a drug trafficking network in Sidon.
The unit also arrested 30 other drug traffickers and drug users linked to the network.
The sources added that gunfire exchanges heard in some Sidon neighborhoods overnight Saturday were the result of ambushes carried out by the unit in seven areas around the city.
Among those arrested, two had four arrest warrants and a third was armed with a pistol.
Some of the detainees were not Sidon residents.
Security sources added that the arrest of the head of the trafficking ring would lead to the disclosure of important information related to the wider illicit network.
