BEIRUT: A school teacher was kidnapped at gunpoint in the border town of Arsal in east Lebanon at dawn Monday, security sources said.
The sources told The Daily Star that four gunmen in a Range Rover with tinted windows kidnapped Abdel-Khaleq Matar from in front of his house in Arsal.
Matar, 54, is a naturalized Lebanese citizen of Syrian descent. He is married to a Lebanese woman from Arsal and teaches at a public secondary school in the town.
There has been an upsurge in kidnappings for ransom in Lebanon in recent months.
