BEIRUT: The Lebanese Army said Tuesday a Jeep Grand Cherokee found in the Beirut southern suburb neighborhood of Maamoura a day earlier had been rigged with 50 kilograms of explosives.
In a statement, the Army said the explosives contained three mines, six cluster bombs, a quantity of TNT and aluminum powder.
A detonating cord 22 meters-long was attached to several areas of the Jeep, the statement added.
It said the Army would “continue the investigation” and called on citizens to notify the military command if they see anything suspicious.
Military experts dismantled the bomb Monday evening after moving the Jeep to a safe location, the statement added.
