BEIRUT: A parliamentary committee tasked with following up on Christian issues said during an emergency meeting in Bkirki Monday that there was sectarian imbalance in various government departments.
The meeting touched on “the imbalance in some governmental appointments under the caretaker Cabinet,” according to a statement.
“Particularly appointments at the Imports Directorate in the Finance Ministry do not take sectarian balance into account,” the statement said.
It added that appointments made in Health and Agriculture ministries did not factor in sectarian balance, and that the committee was following up on the issue with both ministers.
The meeting was headed by Bishop Bulos Sayah, a representative of Patriarch Beshara Rai.
