BEIRUT: A van driver was stabbed and several passengers on the mini-bus were beaten by a mob late Tuesday along the Tripoli-Akkar highway in north Lebanon.
A security source told The Daily Star Wednesday that the van operator, Ezzeddine Ezzeddine, was attacked in Bedawwi while transporting passengers from Tripoli to Akkar.
The source said Ezzeddine was being treated at a local Tripoli hospital for several stab wounds.
The gang fled after robbing Ezzeddine and his passengers of their money, the source added.
Residents briefly blocked Abdeh road in north Lebanon Wednesday to protest the attack on the van driver.
They called on the government to conduct patrols along the Tripoli- Akkar highway to prevent similar robberies.
