BEIRUT: Gunmen stole $300,000 from a bank vehicle transporting the money in east Lebanon on Monday, security sources told The Daily Star.
The gunmen blocked the vehicle's route as it was traveling from the Chtaura to the Baalbek branch of the First National Bank.
The sources said there were two men were in the bank's Mercedes car transferring the money, one from the Fakhouri family and another from Akil family. Neither was harmed in the incident.
After taking the money, the assailants fled the crime scene, the sources said.
An investigation into the incident is underway.
