BEIRUT: The Telecommunications Ministry and the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority published a number of recommendations Monday to curb cellphone use among drivers.
The recommendations were the product of a workshop aimed to tackle the prevalence of mobile phone use on the roads.
Attendees included specialists from the security forces, the telecoms sector, engineers, academics and nonprofit organizations.
The workshop called for adopting policies that take into consideration road safety concerns and intelligent transportation systems.
The workshop also recommended the implementation of current laws and the establishment of a national road safety council.
The training of a specialized traffic police force was also recommend.
