BEIRUT: Head of the Journalist’s Union Elias Aoun lashed out Monday at two female journalists for publishing what he described as unprofessional reports and reactions to UAE singer Ahlam.
Aoun said the two journalists should be reminded that “journalists are messengers of constructive and guiding speech,” in a statement issued by his office.
Aoun was referring to a video that went viral in which journalist Nidal Ahmadiyeh insulted and threatened Ahlam.
Ahmadiyeh alleged that Ahlam pirated her Twitter account to spread rumors about her death Sunday. Ahmadiyeh described Ahlam as “illiterate” and “vulgar,” promising to retaliate for “what she did to my family.”
Aoun also criticized An-Nahar journalist Nisreen Zawahra for publishing the story and the video.
Aoun addressed the two journalists and said: “My dear colleagues, let us safeguard the profession and not turn it into the last resort of those who can’t find other jobs.”
