BEIRUT: The head of the Journalists’ Union warned Sunday against holding media professionals responsible for crimes committed by politicians.
In a statement, Elias Aoun said: “Lebanese journalists, once again, are being held responsible for the crimes, explosions, and all political and security issues.”
Aoun said the union would not keep silent if political figures lagged on their national duties.
“This [union] wants Lebanese leaders and decision-makers to govern effectively today, and not tomorrow.
We demand that a Cabinet ... be formed.”
Speaking on behalf of the journalists the union represents, he added: “We want politicians who take political matters seriously and who have the will and determination to save Lebanon before it is too late.”
