BEIRUT: Hezbollah official Ammar Moussawi sharply criticized the United States Thursday over its threats to take military action against Syria during discussions with United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon Derek Plumbly.
A statement issued by Hezbollah’s media office said Moussawi slammed the United States over its potential military action against Syria in retaliation to an alleged use of chemical weapons by the Assad government.
“Whatever the excuses that the United States administration is trying to use to justify the military strike against Syria, such step would be regarded as a wanton aggression that does not have any justification but to support the Israel project and hegemony on the region and its resources,” Moussawi said.
“The choice of the United States again to take military action, against the will of the international system and without any legal justification, brings to mind the recent bullying of the U.S. in violating the security of nations and peoples of our region,” he added.
The two also discussed Lebanon and matters related to the Syrian crisis.
