BEIRUT: Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat said Monday he hoped a possible U.S.-led military strike against Syria would not affect Lebanon.
“We hope that the security and chemical repercussions of the strike will not reach Lebanon, despite the possibility that the Syrian regime will link Lebanon to this ever-escalating crisis,” Jumblatt said in his weekly comment to the PSP-affiliated Al-Anbaa website.
Jumblatt said he would refrain from speculating about all of the possible developments in the neighboring country in the event of strikes.
The PSP leader criticized the overload of Syrian war analysis in Lebanese media.
“Television screens have become full of military experts and retired generals of great capabilities in interpreting international positions and their strategic and tactical implications,” he said.
He also criticized Lebanon politicians for overlooking local concerns and the needs of the Syrian refugees and “instead focusing their time and efforts on analyzing the strike against Syria.”
