TRIPOLI, Lebanon: The arrest of three illegal vehicle registration brokers Monday in north Lebanon prompted protesters to pelt a police car with stones and close a road, a security source said.
A group of men threw stones at the police car transporting detainees from a vehicle registration center in Fawwar, in Zghorta, the source said.
The police car’s windows were damaged in the attack but there were no injuries, said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The source said a crowd protested in support of the detainees, blocking a road linking Zghorta to the northern city of Tripoli with burning tires. Police managed to reopen the road later in the day.
