BEIRUT: Sidon’s municipal police have received explosives detectors, part of a security plan being implemented in the city, Sidon’s mayor said Tuesday.
Mohammad Saudi said the advanced devices were imported from Germany. “An Internal Security Forces specialized officer will train municipal police on using the device,” he said.
“Resorting to this device is part of precautionary security measures following the unfortunate bombings [last month],” Saudi added.
Last month, the Army, ISF and Sidon’s municipal police began implementing a security plan in the city.
Seventy-seven people were killed and hundreds wounded in car bomb attacks in the Beirut southern suburbs and Tripoli in August.
