BEIRUT: Lebanese authorities foiled an attempt Friday to smuggle nearly eight kilograms of illegal stimulants out of Beirut’s airport, the National News Agency said.
The NNA said two Syrians, a 28-year-old identified by his initials F.K. and a 26-year-old, K.K., were arrested for carrying around 8 kilos of Captagon.
The NNA did not say where the Syrians had been headed.
Authorities have foiled several attempts in recent months to smuggle Captagon, a synthetic stimulant, out of Lebanon.
Fenethylline, known locally by its brand name Captagon, is used in some countries to treat types of attention deficit disorders. It has become popular in Arab countries as a party drug.
