BEIRUT: The Civil Defense General Directorate issued a statement Sunday reporting that several fires had been extinguished across Lebanon.
A large forest fire broke out through vast expanses of olive trees in the Kfar Matta valley in Aley near the side of the Al-Qadibridge Sunday, the National News Agency said.
Lebanese Army helicopters along with the Civil Defense struggled to douse the fire which had was still burning by the afternoon.
Kfar Matta Mayor Hussein al-Gharib called on all those concerned to take necessary steps to put out the fire before it spread to other areas.
Also Sunday, a fire broke out in the pine forests of the outlying areas of the towns of Qatale and Kahlounieh in the Chouf region.
Another forest fire broke out in the Aley town of Roueisat al-Ballout.
Additionally, forest fires erupted in Metn, Akkar, Kesrouan, Bsharri and Baabda Sunday, while weed-related fires erupted in Sidon, Beirut, Metn, Chouf and Zahle.
Factory fires also erupted in Deir Shamra in the Metn town of Bikfaya, at a sawmill in Dikwaneh and at a warehouse in Shoueifat.
A forest fire had also broken out near the northern villages of Sindiyaneh and Ayyat Friday.
The blaze threatened to damage homes, prompting municipalities to call on the Lebanese Army to help in firefighting efforts. It was contained by nightfall.
