BEIRUT: MP Walid Jumblatt met separately with a number of officials Thursday to thank them for offering condolences over the recent passing of his mother.
Jumblatt, accompanied by head of the Lebanese Democratic Party MP Talal Arslan, visited President Michel Sleiman at Baabda Palace, Speaker Nabih Berri at the speaker’s Ain el-Tineh residence, caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Prime Minister-designate Tammam Salam.
According to a statement from Sleiman’s office, during the meeting the participants also discussed political and security developments in the country and the region.
Sleiman also met with Army chief Maj. Gen. Jean Kahwagi over military measures to preserve stability and security inside Lebanon and on the border.
According to the statement, Sleiman also met Thursday U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon David Hale for talks on the Sept. 25 United Nations meeting in New York to discuss ways of helping Lebanon cope with the large numbers of Syrian refugees in the country.
