TRIPOLI, Lebanon: Heavy rainfall took northern citizens by surprise Tuesday, inundating streets and causing flooding.
Heavy rainfall, which is unusual for this time of year, swept the soil of the Dinnieh village of Bakhoun, blocking the road connecting the village to Tripoli. In Akkar, water flooded orchards and caused crop damage.
In the Batroun area of Basatin al-Osi and many neighborhoods in Tripoli, shop owners had to shut their doors to prevent water from ruining their goods.
In the mountainous regions, temperatures fell to 12 degrees, and heavy fog all but covered the high-altitude villages of Koura and Zghorta.
Following the rainfall, the Tripoli municipality launched a campaign to clean blocked sewer openings to avoid flooding in the future.
