BEIRUT: A Syrian man was shot and killed while attempting to rob a group of attendants at a construction site near Jounieh, north of Beirut, a security source said Wednesday.
The source identified the man as 28-year-old Tarek Dib Kharrat.
The source said the man wielding a dagger broke into a construction site of a housing project in Sahel Alma near Jounieh late Tuesday, demanding money from on-site attendants.
When the attendants yelled, site partner Bashir Imad, who happened to be there, grabbed a shotgun and fired at the trespasser, killing him instantly, the source added.
Site attendants, all Syrian nationals, told police the man spoke “Arabic.”
Police have launched an investigation.
