BEIRUT: Bombings will continue to shake Lebanon while the Hezbollah-controlled southern suburbs of Beirut will take the brunt of the attacks, caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel said in remarks published Thursday.
“Certainly," Charbel told Ad-Diyar when asked whether Lebanon would witness a spate of bombings.
"Information we have indicates that [Beirut’s southern] suburbs will be targeted more than other areas," he added.
His comments came only days after government security forces deployed in the southern suburbs of Beirut Monday in line with the Interior Ministry’s security plan to replace Hezbollah’s own security measures enforced following a series of attacks targeting the predominantly Shiite suburbs.
Charbel said in remarks published Wednesday officials would hold a meeting later this week to discuss security in Tripoli, Lebanon’s northern city that was recently targeted by deadly twin car bombs.
