BEIRUT: A Lebanese-Australian was elected mayor of an Australian city for the second time Thursday.
Hisham Zreika, a counselor for the Australian Liberal Party, was elected mayor of Auburn for the second time in five years.
Zreika, born in Auburn, is the son of Lebanese immigrants who left the country in 1960s.
He spent five years of his childhood in Lebanon and speaks Arabic fluently.
He joined the Australian Liberal Party 13 years ago and has served as a counselor in the municipal government since 2004.
