BEIRUT: Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai Friday called for women to play a greater role in politics.
“The Lebanese woman has a prominent role in society, but not in political society or in the Lebanese Parliament, where her role is marginalized.
We demand balance in society and that the role of women become essential in politics and Parliament,” Rai said at an event marking the 25th anniversary of the apostolic letter by Pope John Paul II on the Dignity and Vocation of Women.
“We raised these issues in the monthly Maronite Bishops statement and demanded that Parliament adopt relevant laws and we will continue to demand the adoption of laws that do women justice,” he said
