BEIRUT: The Internal Security Forces said Sunday that it confiscated a stolen vehicle in the northeastern border town of Wadi Hmayyed, part of the police force's crackdown in the area.

On its Twitter feed, the ISF said the Arsal unit confiscated a black Mercedes ML430, stolen from a women identified by her initials, D.M.

Most of the vehicles used in car bombings in Lebanon over the last year had been stolen, and some of them were allegedly rigged with explosives in Arsal, where town officials have close links with the Syrian opposition.

Radical groups fighting in Syria have claimed responsibility for most of the deadly attacks in predominantly Shiite areas of Lebanon, citing Hezbollah’s military intervention alongside the Syrian regime.
