BEIRUT: Leading businessman Bahij Abu Hamzeh was admitted to hospital shortly after being arrested over embezzlement charges, security sources told The Daily Star Tuesday.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the sources said that Abu Hamzeh, who once managed the business and property of Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblatt, was transferred to Al-Hayat hospital in Baabda shortly after his arrest Monday, but refused to disclose the reason for his admission.
Abu Hamzeh was arrested on charges of embezzlement filed by Safa, a football team sponsored by Jumblatt. The Druze leader last year filed two complaints against his former aide and relieved him of his duties, accusing him of embezzlement and breach of trust.
