Berri sets pay raise talks for later Wednesday

BEIRUT: Committee talks over a controversial salary scale plan will resume Wednesday afternoon, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri said.

A statement from his office said the meeting of the joint parliamentary committees was scheduled for 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Civil servants, teachers and labor unions threatened to take to the streets across Lebanon Wednesday to protest Parliament’s failure to ratify a wage hike after the Committees failed to agree on a means to secure funds for the proposed salary scale.
