BEIRUT: Health Minister Wael Abu Faour Monday referred the case of a physician accused of committing a medical error during a child’s surgery and of performing another sham surgery to the general prosecutor.

Abu Faour referred the file of the physician, identified as R.M., compiled by the Hospitals’ Control Department at the ministry and the Directorate of Medical Care, for further investigation.

The decision to file the case with the judiciary was supported by head of the Order of Physicians, Antoine Bustani.

Abu Faour stressed that the ministry would exert all efforts to protect the health of the Lebanese people and prevent any laxity on the part of medical professionals, as well as monitor the performance of health workers.

Separately Abu Faour asked that all physicians commit to using the standard prescription form by May 3.
