BEIRUT: Military Court Judge Dany Zeenni called Tuesday for an investigation into a photo that was posted with a caption claiming that it showed the bodies of Lebanese Army soldiers killed in the Syrian region of Raqqa.

The Army Intelligence Department and the Information Division were tasked by the assistant of the government commissioner to the Military Court to look into the matter.

A judicial source told The Daily Star that the investigation was prompted by officials' fears that the caption was true, which would mean that the 13 bodies are of the soldiers who were kidnapped by armed militants in Arsal.

Cease-fire efforts by the Muslim Scholars Committee have resulted in the release of three of the 16 policemen and three soldiers abducted by the militants, while 19 soldiers from the Army are still missing.

The clashes between the Army and the armed groups in Arsal entered its fourth day Tuesday, resulting in the death of 16 soldiers, 12 civilians and more than 50 militants.
