BEIRUT: Capt. Danny Fouad Khairallah, 30, was killed during Army clashes with armed militants in Arsal Monday, leaving behind a newly born daughter, Christina, and a widowed wife, Julie Chahine.
“He’s not just my Dad, he’s also my hero,” read Chahine’s cover photo on Facebook. Her profile picture was a picture of her husband cradling his month-old daughter, who was dressed in Army uniform.
A Facebook page titled “Martyred Hero Commando Captain Danny Khairallah” was created in memory of the late soldier.
One photo on the page shows Khairallah holding his daughter with the caption, “Your father is a martyr Christina.”
“About a hero who received his child and went on into martyrdom” was printed next to another photo showing Khairallah and his wife holding their child.
Khairallah was born in Beirut on October, 14, 1984, and first volunteered in the Army as a cadet officer in 2003 before being promoted to the rank of lieutenant in 2006. In January this year, Khairallah was promoted to the rank of captain.
The Lebanese Army said Tuesday the clashes with “takfiri terrorist groups” in Arsal - the worst Syria-linked violence in Lebanon since the civil war began in 2011 - had killed 16 soldiers and wounded 86 others, with 19 still missing and believed to be being held captive by the militants.
