Body of Italian peacekeeper found in s. Lebanon

BEIRUT: U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon announced Tuesday that the body of an Italian peacekeeper was found in a southern village.

In a statement, UNIFIL spokesperson Andrea Tenenti said the body of an Italian soldier was found inside a U.N. base in Shamaa village, adding that investigation was ongoing to determine the circumstances behind the incident.

He also said that the peacekeeping force was coordinating with Lebanese authorities.

Tenenti did not name the soldier.
