BEIRUT: Police said Tuesday they have arrested a man for blackmailing citizens and impersonating security personnel in the Beirut neighborhoods of Hamra and Clemenceau.
During interrogation, the man confessed to going into construction sites and homes under renovation, where he would blackmail owners for money under the pretext that he was a security agent overseeing operations in the area.
The man, 38, carried out these crimes for the past two months and used to “threaten and intimidate citizens,” police said in a statement.
Police asked citizens who might have been victims of such fraud to come forward to the Minet al-Hosn station or call the hotline: 01-605987.
