Paris “disassociates itself” from delay in arming Army

A diplomatic source at the French Foreign Ministry told As-Safir that Beirut and Paris were following up on the $3 billion Saudi grant for the Lebanese Army.

“We have made clear to the Lebanese government that the responsibility for the delay in the signing of the protocol agreement lies with the Saudis,” the source said.


Efforts to hold meeting between UCC, Hariri

Head of the Private Schools Teachers Association Nehme Mahfoud said efforts were underway to arrange a meeting with former Prime Minister Saad Hariri after Education Minister Elias Bou Saab contacted MP Bahia Hariri.

Mahfoud said the Union Coordination Committee was also arranging a meeting with Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri. He said the UCC would like to meet MP Walid Jumblatt as soon as possible.


Signs of hope as wage hike looms

An-Nahar has learned from ministerial and parliamentary sources that the salary increase looms with signs of agreement.


Presidential election put on back burner

Western diplomatic sources told Al-Liwaa that the presidential election was on the back burner for now.

The sources, however, added that the election would likely take place no later than Nov. 22, which marks Independence Day.
