BEIRUT: Police are searching for a Syrian man accused of beating his 3-year-old son, who died earlier this week after falling off a tent at a makeshift Syrian refugee camp in east Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley.

The state-owned National News Agency said Mohammad Fares was rushed to hospital Saturday after falling off his parents’ tent at a temporary refugee camp in Jib Jinnine.

Fares died Aug. 12 after being hospitalized for four days, NNA said.

It said information made available to police indicated that the child had been severely beaten by his father, Khairo Fares, before falling.

Authorities raided Fares’ house but did not find him, NNA added.
