BEIRUT: Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun is reported to be recovering quickly at a hospital north of Beirut Monday, after undergoing surgery to fix a broken arm, political sources told The Daily Star.

Visitors who checked on Aoun at Serhal Hospital in Rabweh, told the sources that the presidential hopeful was in good health and joked about the fall that led to him breaking his arm while he was trying to uproot a tomato plant.

Aoun assured his visitors that despite the fracture he was still able to take the presidential oath if he is elected, despite his physician’s prohibition.

He is expected to be released from hospital Tuesday if all tests come back fine. He will rest and recover at home, and will have to go through physiotherapy sessions for his right arm, the sources added.

Aoun, who heads the largest Christian parliamentary bloc in Lebanon and is a presidential candidate backed by the March 8 coalition, fell on his arm in the garden of his house in Rabieh, north of Beirut, Sunday.
