BEIRUT: Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun was reported to be recovering quickly at a hospital north of Beirut Monday after undergoing surgery to fix a broken arm, political sources told The Daily Star.
Visitors who checked on Aoun at Serhal Hospital in Rabieh said the presidential hopeful was in good health and joked about how he fell while trying to uproot a tomato plant, breaking his arm, the sources said.
Aoun assured visitors that despite his physician’s prohibition, he was still able to take the presidential oath if he was elected president.
The 80-year-old Kesrouan MP is expected to be released from hospital Tuesday. He will rest and recover at home, and will have to go through physiotherapy sessions for his right arm, the sources added.
Aoun, who heads the largest Christian parliamentary bloc in Lebanon and is a presidential candidate backed by March 8, fell on his arm in the garden of his house in Rabieh, north of Beirut, Sunday.
Hezbollah officials Wafiq Safa and Hussein Khalil visited Aoun Monday on behalf of the party’s leader, Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah.
Other politician and officials flocked to the hospital or called Monday to check on Aoun’s health.
