(The Daily Star/Hasan Shaaban)

BEIRUT: Beirut's tap water is free of germs and safe to drink, the Beirut and Mount Lebanon Water Company said Tuesday.

“After conducting chemical tests on several samples ... during the months of May and June, results revealed that the water was free of germs,” the company said in a statement.

“The tests also proved that the water does not pose health risks and is up to the international quality and standards for drinking water.”

The statement noted that reservoirs in several areas, including Meshref, Damour, Choueifat, Al-Rishani and Emil Hajj, had high salinity and brackish water.

“The company is trying to address this issues and trying to search for water alternatives in these areas.”
